Steady Saturday - Glorious Fernvale (or Goat Track Gander)

  • Centenary Aquatic Centre

This week, we hit the hills - with two options: (I) Glorious Fernvale 155km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19445701 or (ii) Goat Track Gander 67km https://ridewithgps.com/routes/19684421

Either way, we'll leave from car park of the Centenary Pool at 5:15am.  For those keen for some hard stuff, we'll take the hard way up Mount Glorious (a relatively short, but steep climb) and then descend into the D'aguilar State Forest and Lake Wivenhoe region. After 85km we can reward ourselves at the famous Old Fernvale Bakery with sweet or savoury treats. The final 70km will see us riding into picturesque Ipswich City via Pine Mountain Road (some hills, but no actual mountain). The first 50km of this ride are the most challenging with the rest being relatively flat and easy. It should take between 6 and 7 hours.

The second group will ride out to Samford and instead of taking the hard way up Mount Glorious, will could climb the goat track and descend Mount Nebo into The Gap. This ride would be 67km with 1100m of climbing.

Tuesday Night Track

  • UQ Athletics Track

Tuesday Night Track is aimed at improving your ability to handle the physiological (and psychological) elements of faster running.

One of the best things about running track is that no man or woman gets left behind!  We use the lanes (e.g. faster runners run in outside lanes) with the intent that people run for similar periods of time (e.g. 90 second effort, 60 second recovery) but the distances vary that are completed (e.g. 375m, 400m, 435m). By having someone to run with despite different pacing, we can work together to achieve our goals.

The session is facilitated by Matthew Boevink.

Typical distance around 7.5km, with 5km of this being hard efforts.

Meet at the seats close to the track to the left of the centre aisle.
